UN International Day of Hope Liverpool Launch

International Day of Hope launched globally on Saturday 12 July 2025, with Liverpool proudly chosen as one of four flagship cities alongside London, New York, and Johannesburg to mark the occasion.

For Phase Creative, it was a chance to do what we do best: use creativity to drive change.

As a creative consultancy rooted in visual storytelling, we were proud to support our friends and collaborators at 2030hub in realising this bold new initiative for the city. Our founder, Sophia Polson, an Associate of 2030hub and a long-time advocate for sustainability and social impact, was delighted to support her home city.

Why Hope? Why Now?

“In times when it is becoming increasingly difficult to find common ground, one thing we all share is hope.”
– Yinka Ilori, designer and UN Day of Hope ambassador

The #BeHope campaign, created by Project Everyone, challenges despair with proof of progress and the power of people coming together. It asks a simple but radical question: What if we chose hope?

On Hope Street – Liverpool’s iconic avenue bookended by two cathedrals – the city became a living symbol of what’s possible. From abseilers descending Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral with a ‘Be Hope’ flag, to schoolchildren writing postcards of hope to the UN Secretary General, to restaurants serving ‘Taste of Hope’ menus, the message was clear: we all have a role to play.

Turning Messages into Movements

At Phase Creative, our mission is to transform complex, urgent issues into visual stories that resonate and mobilise. For the launch of International Hope Day, we supported 2030hub by creating storytelling assets that would capture attention and document Liverpool’s involvement.

We believe visual storytelling has the power to stop people in their tracks, make them feel something, and start asking questions that lead to action. And in a world dominated by negative media, that spark of hope is more important than ever.

The Bigger Picture

Hope is not wishful thinking – it’s a strategy.
As shared in the Global Goals’ Hope Report, there are powerful, measurable wins worth celebrating:

  • HIV infections have dropped by 60%
  • Deforestation in the Amazon fell by over 30% in 2024
  • Extreme poverty has halved since 2000
  • 50 million more girls are in school than in 2015

At Phase Creative, we see our role as bridging the gap between policy and people, helping initiatives like the Day of Hope feel real, accessible and inspiring at a local level. Our work with 2030hub continues to champion this intersection of creativity, sustainability and community-led change.

What’s Next?

The Day of Hope may have launched in July, but the journey is just beginning. From the UN General Assembly in New York to COP30 in the Amazon and Global Goals Week here in Liverpool this September, the message will echo around the world.

Phase Creative will continue to play our part – telling the stories that need to be seen and heard.

After all, when creativity meets purpose, anything is possible.
