What better way to kick off World Female Ranger Week than with this quote:
“What’s she doing in the bush without a gun – just gold earrings and lipstick!”
This was the question that the men in Sergeant Felicia Mogakane’s community asked when she started Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit the world’s first all-female anti-poaching unit in South Africa. Today, she’s not only proven them wrong but broken gender stereotypes in conservation along the way 🙌🏼
That moment set the tone for an inspiring day at #IWTTF hosted by Women In Travel CIC .
We heard how Intrepid Travel’s commitment to inclusive leadership and investing in DEI has helped drive their success – thank you Zina Bencheikh for sharing your journey and reminding us of the power of self-belief.
Julia Simpson from World Travel & Tourism Council gave a powerful keynote, recounting the inspiring story of Ida Pfeiffer, a 19th century woman who travelled the world solo, challenging the societal norms of the time. “Ours too is an age in which women must break boundaries” l
The Leaders Panel brought raw honesty, with reminders that “If it’s easy, you’re probably not advocating for the right thing” (Max Siegel). Moderator Juliet Kinsman also highlighted the importance of storytelling and empathy to help us understand different perspectives. 🙌🏼
🤝 Huge appreciation for the conversations around allyship – and to all the men who showed up and showed support.
+ many more!
